Bill,
I posted the question the other day to try and get some feedback/thoughts about Matt Read. If he is still unsigned, is it worth it to invite him to camp? I felt he showed value in his late-season role on 4th line and pk. Obviously, a lot depends on prospects showing they belong in NHL and earn 3rd/4th line roles plus we have several NHL caliber players on the roster (Weal, Weise, Lehtera, etc.).

My hope is that one or both of NAK and Vorybev do enough to earn a spot out of camp. I'd like to see more of our youth catch on. Same on defense. I'd love to see Myers get a spot.

How do you see it playing out and we will still be "moving on" from Read if he is unsigned?

I'd also like to see Myers get a spot, but I think it would require no less than 2 injuries to the 7 NHL dmen (including Folin) for it to happen. If he had stayed mostly healthy last year, he'd likely have a much better shot.

I'd personally be happy to see Matt Read back here for another year on a one-year deal as a 4th line/PK option, but I don't see it playing out that way. I think he'll at least get a tryout invite from some team.

Bill,

Do you think the Flyers would make the decision to waive and send to Lehigh a veteran like Weise if Aubé-Kube and Leier prove to be better options and have solid preseasons?

I'm definitely thinking he'll be the guy who gets a PTO somewhere and catches on. His year in Lehigh and Philly seemed to be worth a shot by some team.

If the Flyers go shopping outside of the org for a 4th line/PK option (and I kinda wish they wouldn't, because I do think they have in house options), you could do a lot worse than Matt Read.

I'd like to see Misha back in the AHL to play top-line minutes and NAK on the 4th line.

Someone will have to go down (or be moved) in order for Hextall to promote a new forward.

Best guess re NAK and Misha

I think Aube-Kubel wins the 4RW spot right out of camp. First, because I think he is ready to play that role and secondly, because he basically only needs to beat some combo of Weise/Leier/Weal for that spot. He's already a better player than Weise or Leier and his strong ES play likely makes him a better 4th line fit than Weal

Vorobyev will probably start the season at LHV. However, if he plays well and either of the Flyers bottom 6 centers aren't performing to expectations, I think he will be the first guy called up to replace them. He's a better defensive player, playmaker and PKer than Vecchione and that will give him the edge for a bottom 6 center spot.

It depends if the bun is broken or not. If the bun isn't broken it's a wrap. If it is broken it's a sandwich

Mine beat 200 ninjas blindfolded, and had to fight uphill, both ways, in the snow.

And that's the way he liked it.
